My idea of a good movie is 2 to 3 hours of being consumed in laughter, or smiles, or a riddle/mystery, or some combination of these. After the movie (figurative) 19th hole discussion that’s it. On the lookout for the next entertainment or mind-engaged activity.

BELFAST, the movie, broke the pattern for me. It was a bull in my china shop. Watching love emerge from hate. Watching unity emerge from division. Watching logic emerge from senselessness. Should your expectations be Schindler’s List high? Maybe not, but for me it goes on the same notepad page.

The Oscars are nearing and BELFAST is up for several awards. I don’t generally root for movies to win an award, but will be doing that in 2022.
